With closing date for submissions being the 18th August all efforts by artists are being put to the test to produce their best works for entry.

The 19th August offers a supporting event in the inaugural En Plein Air Painting Challenge being held across eight locations in Eltham district. Almost 50 artists are participating with easels and brushes in hand. Artists can be viewed between 10am and 3pm capturing the landscapes.

Details are on the website https://elthamartshow.org.au/en-plein-air-challenge-19-august-2023/. Quietly walking in the footsteps of the early Australian Impressionists brings memories flooding back of paintings created by Walter Withers, Neil Douglas and many others who were the major inspiration of making paintings look distinctly Australian. Progress from those days is reflected in the current exhibition. Categories including modern contemporary and emerging artist bring today’s interpretations to a current design requirement. Proudly hosted by the Rotary Club of Eltham, the show represents a strong volunteer movement which supports the community’s artists and business’s. Also strongly supported by the State Government, local council and major sponsors we expect the show to become an ingrained annual event in the Shire calendar.
