ABOUT THE ELTHAM ART SHOW

The Eltham Art Show 2023 | The Art Heritage of The Nillumbik Shire

An initiative of the Rotary Club of Eltham

The Eltham Art Show provides an exciting platform and welcomes Artists to present their works to be judged within 11 categories.  Attractive prize monies are on offer.  Artists must have a strong connection to the heritage of the Nillumbik Shire in order to qualify for the show.

The inaugural show in 2022 displayed over 450 works from esteemed artists from throughout the local area and beyond. The culture and legacy from the early forefathers was depicted in its truest form with interpretations representing Contemporary, Landscapes, Still Life, mediums in oils, acrylics, watercolour, pastel and drawings.

Supported strongly by the Nillumbik Shire Council and supporting Partners, the show encourages a strong relationship with the artists to present their best works and establish the show as one of the region’s leading art shows.

2023 has seen a new dimension for the show in its decision to exhibit all 3D works at Montsalvat. Montsalvat’s relationship with the early art development and rustic culture fits perfectly with this decision to display glass, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery.

The Rotary Club of Eltham recognises its Shire as being the birthplace of Tonal Painting and more, established by the forefathers of Art.

The art presented at the show is exclusive to those Artists who have a direct association to the forefathers of the Art History of Nillumbik.

Withers, Meldrum, Frater, Douglas, Pugh, Baldessin, Skipper, Jorgensen plus many other colourful and talented characters etched themselves into the Art History of Nillumbik through associations such as Montsalvat, Dunmoochin and Baldessin Press.

Over 30 Rotary Clubs through Victoria present an Art Show as part of their major project profiles. Those shows are open to all artists from across the state and beyond.

The Eltham Art Show is exclusive, fully curated and selective. Artists must qualify to enter the show.

These guidelines will maintain the integrity of the show and the legacy of the Art History of Nillumbik through its unique development over time.
