A diverse career in the arts has seen the development of a distinctive style in the use of watercolour. Starting as a printmaker, then working in oils, and on glaze painting mediums has shaped a watercolour artist with a varied skills that allows the use of this capricious medium full scope. Add to this a varied choice of subject matter and a clear personal vision and you have a unique artist in the arts community. She has won awards and has been invited to exhibit in watercolour exhibitions in China. A solid exhibition history for many decades shows both commitment and achievement.
Inspiration for the work is firmly based in reality and this means much time is spent on location in both urban and natural settings. Living in the Australian bush on the edge of a large vibrant city gives Ev a unique connection to very different worlds. Her keen eye finds subjects that are insightful recording changes in nature and everyday moments indicative of our time.
Beginning her artistic journey as an art teacher, majoring in printmaking she has used the tutoring, mentoring skills throughout a long career. The opportunity to teach and travel around Australia and internationally has added depth to the imagery produced. She is keenly followed as a tutor for such painting adventures.
Documenting her skills and knowledge has resulted in a series of instructional art books in the ebook format, “Painting with Ev Hales”, that has taken her profile to a truly global market and her arts practice into the new digital world. She has also published “Ev Hales A Work in Progress” and been featured in a variety of art magazines in Australia and overseas.
