Many early landscapes from the early to mid 1900’s were produced from the Eltham area by artists such as Walter Withers, Max Meldrum, Percy Leeson, Justus Jorgansen, etc. There are suggested landmarks to depict but you are welcome to choose your own.
En Plein Air (outdoors) painting is an extremely popular activity in Europe and UK particularly. Its attraction is manyfold. Gatherings of likeminded artists can be found in scenic areas, depictions of those scenes are reproduced and memories are created from the enjoyment of that participation. Chatter, picnics and lively camaraderie encourages the creativity and atmosphere surrounding these wonderful events. Now gathering momentum throughout Victoria with many noted Artists leading trips away for days to secluded attractive areas.
The event is facilitated by the Victorian Artists Society, who themselves have a very active en Plein Air group. Volunteers and judges from VAS will cast their opinions and select the ‘top 20’ pieces for a special exhibition at VAS with the winner being presented with a prize at the Eltham Art Show Gala opening on Wednesday 30th August 2023.
