MARIA BARBARO
Biography
Maria Barbaro
Greensborough based painter/printmaker
Fashion Design Diploma RMIT
After a full time design career in the fashion industry, I began freelancing returning to fashion illustration. Later with Victoria Parks and Garden , and later again for the Distant School of Languages.
In 2000 I enrolled into Nell Frysteen's art classes working at first with pastels before choosing acrylics as my main painting medium. I am inspired by many subjects including still life although I find myself returning to urban scenes and traveled landscapes.
My introduction to print making in 2010 ignited a new passion after attending Eltham printmaker Libby Schreiber's lino cut workshop. Discovering mono printing soon after at Nyora Studio and at Eltham Living and Learning with Mirranda Burton . My printmaking is about my love of line, gesture and pattern
Career highlights include the Editions 2021 exhibition at Tacit Gallery and finalist in St Kevin's College Art Prize 2021.
I have exhibitied within Nillumbik at Monsalvat and Eltham Library Gallery .
I have collections with the City of Whittlesea Cultural Collection, City of Whittlesea Collectio plus private collection interstate and overseas.
