Maike Pritchard, Australian Artist.
Since my early childhood I have loved to observe nature and be outdoors. I believe in conservation of natural habitats for our unique wildlife. My art depicts nature and wildlife.
My professional career in art began after completing a diploma in Graphic Communications in 1982. Then a 10 year career in Publishing followed by a 20 year career as a Early Childhood Educator. Illustrations in watercolour and pen and ink have been published and printed.
My work has been exhibited in local art Exhibitions at Wattle Glen and Diamond Creek East Primary school Art shows 1990-2000, Frution Art Festival at Montsalvat 2008 and Breath Exhibition 2016. Exhibitions of Pyrography and Wood Carving at Eltham Community Centre at the annual woodworker’s Exhibition in November 2016, 2017 and 2018. My first exhibition at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show in 2018.( As a member of Thou Art Mum).
My artistic expression has diversified into woodworking since joining Eltham and District Woodworkers Club Inc in 2016. Pyrography is the art of illustrating on wood by burning using a super-heated pen allowing texture of skin, fur and feathers.
In recent years I have discovered the joy of working in wood both 2D and 3D form. With the use of a scroll saw, carving tools and sandpaper, the natural wood grain can be exposed and utilised to add form and texture to my work.
