LIVE IN NILLUMBIK SHIRE
I am an Australian artist based at Stony Creek Studio in Warrandyte Victoria. Between 2005 and 2019 I maintained a working studio at Huanghua Studio in Beijing China.
I completed a Master of Arts at RMIT, Melbourne in 2002. The artwork that comes out of my studio, in some respects, is an eclectic mix based in the Human Condition, belief systems and our relationship to our environment.
My art practice is project based, most often utilizing multiples, of almost anything, that I consider expresses the message I want to convey. I will thoroughly research my chosen topic and work through a series of ideas and selective materials. I will either, work with others, such as artisans and craftspeople to realise the concept; or create to produce a body of work within my studio.
Within my art practice production, I am considering the relationship of the works, particularly in installations, to each other and the audience.
In creating an artwork, I seek to have subtle details revealed to the audience as they engage. From a distance there is an overall view, however, deeper and more detail is discovered as the viewer moves in and around the work.
Installation and ephemeral art are disciplines that am drawn to create, yet in the confines of my studio, two-dimensional works of collage, printmaking and drawing harmonize with the broader multiple piece installation works.
In 2013 I celebrated 10 Years of Making Art in China with the Solo Exhibition titled Bloom of Youth, and a publication Ten Years in China.
Solo exhibitions include: One mOOlit night – Beijing(2007), A Personal Perspective -Da Qing(2011), Bed of Roses -Beijing(2014) One Mile One Boat -Hudson Valley New York State(2016)
Presented in partnership with Fed Square Melbourne, the artwork Deep Blue Crossing was installed in Fracture Gallery for the month of November 2021, in celebration of Multicultural Week.
